18th June 2016
Well the start of our last week this trip started off very hot, got up to 34 deg in Arillas, and 36 deg on some parts of Corfu. It was just too hot to do too much. We sat around most of the day with cool drinks and stayed in the shade.
British astronaut Tim Peake returned to Earth following his historic six-month mission to the space station. I loved watching it on the news, he seems to be a lovely man and always smiling.
I made a Chicken curry for dinner.
19th June 2016
A bit cooler to wake up to this morning and cloudy.
Phil watched the Grand Prix on the laptop, unusually, it was fairly good internet. I took Poppy for a walk, it was still cloudy but still warm, 27 – 29 deg.
We went to Rainbow for dinner tonight, it might be our last chance this trip to have Vicky’s delicious Chicken Fajita wraps. Then we sat at the bar and chatted to Sue, Eric and Paul. Jimmy made me one of his world famous cocktails. We named it ‘Sex on Cleethorpes beach’ – it is green because we do love our mushy peas!
A lovely sunny and hot day. I did lots of washing and got it all dry. Mainly to freshen the bedding etc for the Motorhome ready for our trip home.
This afternoon we drove over to San Stefanos to collect some bits from Hippopots and to say goodbye to Jackie, Pete and Bod. We had an early dinner at 2 Stars, I do like it there and such a warm welcome, they always remember us, and even asked after Dot. Just the little touches of a complimentary dish of fresh fruit, and a sweet and drink when you ask for the bill makes you want to go back again.
We stayed in tonight and did a bit of route planning for the trip home. It will be a slow one as we want to go to Provence to see the Lavender fields in full bloom. (Well this ‘we’ does, Phil is not keen – but I have the steering wheel). Then we are going to the cousins near Limoges to deplete their wine rack for a few days, I mean visit our lovely relations. After that we will make our way up the west coast of France to Roscoff to catch the ferry back to UK just in time for a Motorhome rally in Devon and to visit friends in the area.
21st June 2016
26 deg at 10am as I am writing this, gonna be another warm one today. We did a bit of packing and relaxing, then went to Armourada for dinner tonight.
22nd June 2016
Paul and Sue took Poppy for a quite long walk today, she came back worn out. 35 deg again.
We stayed in tonight, using all the bits up out of the fridge, for dinner. More route planning.
23rd June 2016
The Uk’s EU referendum happens today. 35 deg at 2 pm. Wow it is roasting. It did get up to 36 deg mid afternoon.
24th June 2016
Well all over bar the shouting. It was quite a close vote, the UK has voted OUT, I don’t think much will change for a while, except the exchange rates plummeted. Oh well suck it up buttercup, onwards and upwards.
We started packing things in the van, Phil did all the oil/water checks, everything is fine so all good to go on Sunday.
This evening we walked down to Portofino to have dinner with our good friends Grace and Chris. We had a great evening. It was still hot at 8 pm. 35 deg, or as Chris prefers 95 F.
Phil struggled walking back up the hill, there was no breeze and still muggy, 7 stops to catch his breath. The heat does not help though. Still slowly but surely.
25th June 2016
30 deg at 10 am. I have done one last load of washing ready for the off tomorrow. Packed everything we don’t need tonight. Now a shower and get ready for our last evening in Arillas.
Joy and Ian picked us up and we went to 7th Heaven at Peroulades but it was very cloudy and the wind coming off the sea was quite strong, We decided to jump ship and went to China town in Sidari. So pleased we moved on it was a great night.
Well that is the end of our Arillas adventure for this year. We will return in September, but are flying over for my birthday.
We are looking forward to the journey back to the UK, starting off with lunch with friends in Ipsos before catching the ferry at midnight.
